Re-elect Jamie Anderson, Boise County Commissioner

Idaho World Interview

What are the skills and experience that you would bring to public office?
My name is Jamie Anderson, the incumbent Republican candidate for Boise County Commissioner District II. Over the past fifteen months I have a record of being extremely fiscally conservative with taxpayers’ money. I do my homework on the issues that come before us. I am paying attention and watching out for the citizens we serve. I bring a unique skill set to the table and have the background and persistence to find solutions.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering from Oregon State University. I have worked for government and private entities as a consultant in forest management. I have volunteered for numerous organizations including board positions. I served for nine years as the President of the Garden Valley Recreation District Board of Directors. I am a licensed water system operator, a certified Emergency Medical Technician, a small business owner, and have two years training as a commercial real estate appraiser. I have been successfully writing grants and administering them for the benefit of the local and statewide community for 28 years. I am very knowledgeable about the workings of government and how to navigate the numerous bureaucratic mine fields. I am organized, analytical, and extremely thorough.

What do you see as the top three issues confronting the county in the next two years? How should the county go about addressing them?
Money, Money, Money! Boise County continues to face decreasing revenues. We must develop and implement a budget that maintains the rural quality of life we all love. Decision makers must be willing to ask the hard questions about what and where to make cuts. I will continue to be the taxpayers’ watchdog and seek solutions to live within our means.

The decision makers you elect must have a strong, experienced voice in protecting our local interest as new government regulations face us. Right now the Army Corps of Engineers is ranking the storage capability of new dams mainly in Boise County. The State is looking for reliable water sources to supply the Treasure Valley for the next fifty years. I have the experience to understand the bureaucracy, their regulatory authority and a willingness to push back on behalf of Boise County.

We all need to be accountable, including Commissioners, to provide an efficient government for taxpayers. Through communication, consideration and cooperation by county leadership we must address our management direction. Bad decisions create potential liability and must not go unchallenged. Even our insurance company recognizes this, and is increasing our premiums (their costs over premiums have exceeded $400K since 2000). Lawsuits against Boise County are draining our reserves. Leadership must be both, efficient and accountable to the taxpayers.
